Tom McCarthy

Tom entered the world of construction in 1969 when he worked as a rodman on a survey crew in Haverhill MA. He held his first carpentry job in 1972.

Discovering his passion for building and design, Tom studied Civil Engineering at Northeastern University and went on to receive an Associate's Degree in Architecture from the Wentworth Institute of Technology.

He founded Tom McCarthy Design Build in 1983 while living in Conway NH. From 1991-2001 he lived in South Carolina where he worked on many high-end residences, including a major restoration of a 12,000 square foot showcase mansion. His work was featured on 'Southern Ways', a popular house and garden show. After that he moved back to NH, and once again offered New Englanders his skills and passion for fine building.

Tom's love for quality craftsmanship is evident in every project. From initial meetings with prospective clients, to site visits, drawings, and the actual work of constructing a home, Tom's attention to detail is present in every stage of the process.

His greatest joy is working with clients and helping them create exactly the home they want to live in. "The money comes and goes," he says. "But when you build something really nice, you can see it years later and be proud of what you did. What lasts is the good feeling from the job and working with the people."

When he's not on a building site or sitting at his drafting table, Tom enjoys gardening, golf, scuba diving, and fishing.
